NASS Seeks Recognition Award Nominations from Membership
New Nomination Process in 2024 Makes it Quick and Easy to Recognize a Worthy Colleague
Nominations are being accepted for NASS’ Recognition Awards, a longstanding tradition honoring excellence and dedication within the spine care field. NASS extends the invitation to its members to nominate deserving individuals for the prestigious Farfan, Wiltse, Selby, Advocacy, and Past President Awards. Each year, the NASS Recognition Awards celebrate outstanding contributions, innovation, and leadership in spine health, recognizing individuals who have made significant impacts on patient care, research, education, and advocacy within the spine community, and to NASS specifically. The Farfan Award, named in honor of Dr. Henry F. Farfan, a pioneer in spinal biomechanics and orthopedic surgery, acknowledges outstanding contributions in spine-related basic science research. The Wiltse Award, named after Dr. Leon Wiltse, a visionary in spinal surgery and instrumentation, honors excellence in leadership and/or clinical research in spine care. The Selby Award, named in memory of Dr. David K. Selby, a trailblazer in spinal medicine and surgery, recognizes contributions to the art and science of spinal disorder management through service to NASS. NASS Past Presidents are ineligible for this award. The Advocacy Award acknowledges individuals who have shown exemplary commitment and leadership in advocating for policies and initiatives that advance spine health awareness, patient care, and professional development. Lastly, the Past President Award, which is awarded once every three years, celebrates former NASS presidents who have left a lasting legacy through their visionary leadership, dedication to the organization, and contributions to the advancement of spinal health. In an effort to streamline the nomination process and encourage broader participation, NASS has introduced a significant change this year: nominations no longer require accompanying letters of recommendation at the time of submission. This alteration aims to facilitate the nomination process, making it more accessible and inclusive for all NASS members. To nominate a colleague or peer for any of the aforementioned awards, please visit the NASS website and complete the online nomination form. Nominations will be accepted until March 31, providing ample time to carefully consider and acknowledge the remarkable contributions of our colleagues. The NASS Recognition Awards are a testament to the collective dedication and excellence within the spine community, inspiring future generations to continue advancing the frontiers of spine health and patient care. Together, let us honor and celebrate the outstanding achievements of these spine specialists who are shaping the future of spine health.
