A Closer Look at the NASS Board of Directors and Council Restructure
Taking steps to fortify its mission and enhance operational efficiency, the NASS Board of Directors recently underwent a comprehensive restructuring. This strategic initiative will redefine the society’s council and committee structure, ensuring a more streamlined decision-making process and alignment with the society's mission.
Recognizing the need for agility in today's dynamic healthcare landscape, the initiative endeavors to create a board and volunteer structure that is more efficient and responsive to the evolving challenges and opportunities in the field. The changes to the board and council structures include:
- Creation of a new Strategic Growth Council, including groups focused on early career, international development, emerging sections and more;
- Mergers of the Health Policy and Advocacy Councils, as well as merging several other committees and sections, to increase synergies;
- Reallocation of board seats to focus on specific and dynamic priorities of the society vs standing seats for specific committees;
- Reduction of the number of at-large board positions from two to one; and
- New board observer seats to ensure ethics and industry perspectives.
Each board member's role is defined with a deliberate focus on their unique mandates, ensuring that their contributions are directly aligned with the overarching vision of the organization. This approach not only enhances accountability but also facilitates a more nimble and purposeful execution of the society’s strategic initiatives. This emphasis on streamlined decision-making and alignment with our mission underscores our dedication to adaptability, innovation, and sustained excellence in serving the membership of NASS, and advancing our shared professional interests as a multidisciplinary society for all spine care providers and researchers.
