Ralph Rashbaum, MD, a founder of the Texas Back Institute and a 30-year NASS member, has died. Rashbaum was in practice for nearly 40 years before retiring in 2022.

Rick Guyer, MD, a former NASS President and fellow founder of TBI, shared his thoughts on Rashbaum with Becker's Spine Review.

“I first met Ralph during my residency in Philadelphia," Guyer told the website. "Little did I know then that several years later, Ralph, Steve Hochschuler and I would join together as founding partners of Texas Back Institute and become lifelong best friends. Everybody loved Ralph. Beyond being an exceptionally skilled surgeon, he was simply one of the warmest human beings you could ever know. For all of us at TBI, Ralph was the ultimate troubleshooter and the go-to colleague whenever anyone faced a difficult case or needed guidance."

Rashbaum received the Volvo Award for low back pain research through the International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine.
