Welcome to NASS' 40th Anniversary: A Milestone Year of Reflection and Progress

Eric J. Muehlbauer, MJ, CAE

NASS Executive Director Burr Ridge, IL

Dear NASS Members,

As we embark on the 40th anniversary of the North American Spine Society, we stand at a unique crossroads—a moment to look back on four decades of remarkable progress in spine care and an opportunity to envision the exciting paths still ahead. It has been my privilege to serve as Executive Director for the past 30 years, and I am continually inspired by the dedication, innovation, and collaboration that define our membership.

From our earliest days as a fledgling organization to our current position as a global leader in spine care, NASS has pursued its mission of advancing education, research, and advocacy. This year, we invite you to join us in celebrating our history and shaping our future.

As we share our own story throughout the year, we also want to tell yours. Throughout 2025, we are inviting our members to share their NASS memories at https://spineline.survey.fm/nass-40th-memories. Whether through personal reflections, anonymous submissions, or photographs, your contributions will weave together the rich tapestry of our shared journey. Be sure to revisit the page frequently, as categories will evolve throughout the year to capture the breadth of your experiences. These submissions will appear on the NASS website, social media, and in the November/December SpineLine, and may be included in an updated book on the history of NASS planned in the next few years.
