Letter to Readers
Welcome to the Brave, New World of SpineLine
Jeff Karzen
Assistant Director of Communications & Publications North American Spine Society Burr Ridge, IL
Dear SpineLine Readers, What you are reading now is the first of its kind for SpineLine, NASS’ clinical and news content magazine for spine care professionals. For the first time in SpineLine’s 24-year history, this issue is digital-only. While there are some bittersweet feelings about the end of a print edition, digital is clearly where the magazine industry has shifted and it’s our duty to give you the best reading experience that we possibly can. Now for the fun stuff. We are thrilled to unveil this new, sleek version of SpineLine. The digital version of the magazine has never looked this sharp, this modern, this cutting-edge. You’ll notice the same, high quality clinical content, but in a format that is unfamiliar at first. We are confident it will be a smooth transition for you, the readers. In terms of nuts and bolts, there are myriad of ways to find each article. Firstly, all articles are listed on the top header by article type. There is also an “In This Issue” page, which serves as a Table of Contents, all with clickable links, of course. At the far left of the top header, you’ll see an icon with three lines, or what we call the “hamburger menu.” Click on that, and it pulls up a lovely preview of every page in the magazine with links to each page. There’s also arrows at the bottom right of each page if you prefer to read that way. The bottom line is this: we have worked hard to make this new reading experience as easy to navigate as possible. Change is hard but we’re here to guide you along the way. As you scroll through the magazine, you’ll notice a poll question from NASS’ Ethics Committee. The plan is to have a poll question in each issue and then share the results in the following issue. This should be a terrific way to gauge the temperature of membership on a variety of issues. Please vote in this first poll if you get a chance. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, concerns or other comments regarding this new-look SpineLine. You can reach us at nasscommunications@spine.org. We hope you will dive in with an open mind and keep reading to stay on top of clinical content, spine care news and more. One last note to reiterate: please sign in to your NASS account and view Communications Preferences within My Account to make sure you are receiving emails from NASS Publications. That’s the only way you will be notified when new issues are available for reading. Cheers!
